Abstract Isolated human fetuses (16–18 weeks gestation) were perfused with [4-14 C]-
progesterone in the presence or absence of synthetic ACTH. There was no significant
difference in the amounts of unconjugated metabolites isolated from the adrenals and the
perfusates in each case but in the conjugated extracts there was a significant increase in the
percentage of extracted 14 C associated with the monosulphate fraction in the presence of
